The Coronavirus outbreak has understandably triggered feelings of anxiety and distress amongst many individuals. However, for those suffering from mental illness, isolation can trigger more extreme reactions, including suicidal thoughts. With Government recommendations including social distancing and self-isolation, it is more important than ever to reach out to friends and family and remain digitally connected.
Mental health is a topic we care very deeply about at The Business Connection, which is why we have put together a short article full of self-care advice you can practice during Covid-19:
Although remaining physically distanced is temporarily required to slow down the spread of Coronavirus, digital alternatives are available. If you know someone who may be distressed, make sure you reach out! Social media, text/WhatsApp messaging and phone/video calls are great ways of remaining connected from a distance!
Whether you are working from home, or taking some time for yourself, plan your day. Try sticking to your usual routine as best as possible e.g. wake up, eat and sleep at the same times – or use this as an opportunity to change your routine if you don’t like the one you have!
Keeping your mind occupied and challenged is one way to improve well-being when self-isolating. This could be having aa overdue clear out, doing puzzles, completing the DIY task you have been putting off, or even relaxing yoga to unwind at the end of the day.
Gyms may be closed, and outdoor activity may be restricted, but there are lots of exercises that can be completed at home. YouTube and Instagram offer a wide selection of at-home workouts using minimal equipment, or if you prefer, go on a walk outside, being careful to remain a safe distance from others! (At time of writing individuals are permitted to exercise outdoors once per day). Research has found that physical exercise boosts self-esteem and mood, as well as reducing stress.
