The Underwriting Team Manager will have responsibility for managing the Underwriting team, ensuring that the company’s offering runs effectively and operate strictly within FCA regulations and delegated authority.
The Underwriting Team Manager will be rewarded with 25 days’ holidays plus Bank Holidays, a contributory pension scheme, death in service, healthcare and annual pay reviews. The company are based close to Hamilton Square train station, so easily accessible from the Wirral and Liverpool.
To apply for the Underwriting Team Manager role, you will possess a minimum of 3 years supervisory or management experience in a similar environment, with sound understanding of underwriting principles. Due to being an FCA regulated business, you will need to pass a satisfactory credit check.
Manage the day-to-day operation of the team, meeting agreed KPIs and providing on the job training, support and development to the team
Work with Insurers to develop new business initiatives, complete non-standard risk referrals and provide management information as required
To develop and maintain a sound understanding of market developments, maintaining and disseminating competitor analysis as required
Develop the relationship with key stakeholders including Sales, Technical teams etc.
Develop processes, policy documentation and systems for new and existing schemes in readiness for market launch.
Work in conjunction with HVS Underwriters and Senior Management where appropriate to
Assess and gather background information on individual risks
Review and Interrogate proposal forms and calculate possible risk
Within underwriting guidelines and parameters, calculate individual’s / organisation’s insurance premium
Review and decide clients’ suitability for insurance cover
Check insured’s previous claim history, if any, and comment accordingly
Negotiate policyholders’ contract terms
Prepare policy documentation
Specify any conditions to be imposed, as appropriate
Liaise and negotiate with brokers and introducing intermediaries
Attend and facilitate, where appropriate, Underwriting meetings
Correlate data for Underwriting Director and CEO when required
For T&C purposes, supervise members of team to ensure full compliance with FCA regulations in force Ensure individual insurance schemes are run in an efficient and opportune manner, requiring the accurate input of information onto databases
Ensure a high standard of service is offered to all clients, at all times Monitor Staff activities and take remedial saction where necessary
To understand and comply with the companies Quality Management Systems and Procedures
To annually review own job description
Ensure all schemes are running smoothly including cover for holidays/ sickness
Minimum of 3 years supervisory or management experience in a similar environment
Sound understanding of Underwriting Principles
In depth knowledge of FCA Regulations relating to the role
Proven experience of managing a team, setting KPIs and achieving targets
Demonstrable ability to use own initiative
Ability to motivate self and influence others
Proven experience of Relationship Management

Evidence of problem solving outcomes gained through experience
CII DIP qualification (commitment to achieve this level will be considered)
